How to Build a Fence with Goat Panels

Even though goats can be difficult to keep penned in enclosures, it is not impossible to construct a reliable goat fence. A goat enclosure is typically used to separate the breeding bucks from the female goats. In this situation, an extremely strong pen should be constructed that allows no less than 200 sq ft of exercise space for a miniature buck or twice the size for a full grown adult buck. In order to build strong and sturdy goat pens, goat panels are used to build a fence in order to contain the goats effectively. By building a fence using goat panels, the goats will be secure and you will also be able to move the fence to different parts of your property with no difficulty. In this article, you will learn how to build a fence using goat panels.

The first step of building a goat fence includes finding out how large you want your goat enclosure or goat pen to be. Each goat panel is about 16 feet long and 48 inches tall. Consequently, if you want a goat fence with an area of 16 square feet, you will need 4 goat panels. In order to move the goat pen around easily, it is recommended to use 4–6 goat panels. These goat panels are available in different opening sizes, known as squares. You will need to ascertain the size for your livestock. For goats, larger squares should be suitable unless you have baby goats and want to keep them enclosed.

Once the size has been determined, you simply need to attach the goat panels together. It is recommended to have an assistant help you with the process. Once the goat panels have been attached, you need to wire the panels together using strong plastic fencing wire. You can also make use of metal wire if you prefer. In order to attach the goat panels together, simply wrap the fencing wire around the goat panels and pull them tight.

Lay the first two goat panels together end to end. You will then have to wrap the plastic or metal wire around the end of the goat panels. Pull the wire tight in order to fix the panels in place to give them added stability. Once the first two goat panels have been affixed together, you must stand the panels and fix the remaining panels in a similar manner. Once that is done, bring the ends together and attach them using a rope. Tie the rope at the top, bottom and one in the middle for added support.

Attaching Feedlot Panels to Posts

Feedlot panels, also referred to as cattle panels or livestock panels, provide an effective way for farmers and ranchers to contain animals. Feedlot panels comprise of interconnecting horizontal and vertical steel rods that create a rigid. They are strong and sturdy panels for use in both temporary as well as permanent fences. Generally, feedlot panels are about 16 feet in length and 54 inches high. Feedlot panels weigh more than 30 pounds, installing these panels can be a tiresome and exhausting task and a challenge for those who are not used to lifting heavy objects. You should therefore always have an assistant at hand to help you with the installation process. You should also make sure you wear protective gear such as gloves in order to protect your hands during the installation process.

The first step of the installation process is to space your wooden or steel corner and line posts at distances of eight feet when you insert them in order to provide the feedlot panels with full support. Using the appropriate equipment such as a post hole digger, dig holes and drive the wooden posts no less than 18 inches into the ground. The steel posts should be installed at least 12 inches into the ground using a handheld post driver.

Stand the feedlot panels up and place one end of the panel alongside one of your corner posts. Place the feedlot panels on the inside of the post with the intention that the posts will prevent the animals from pushing the feedlot panels out of place if they bump into them.

Secure the feedlot panels to the wooden corner post using five galvanized steel fencing staples and make sure the staples are spaces evenly along the height of the feedlot panels. If your corner post is made of steel, wrap it around with 6 inch length of fencing wire around both ends of the steel rod as well as the post at different heights in order to attach the feedlot panels firmly. Twist the ends of the fencing wire together at least four complete rotations and bend them down in order to prevent you and your livestock from getting accidental cuts.

Walk to the other end of the feedlot panels and repeat the process. Steady the feedlot panels by affixing the middle of the feedlot panels to the remaining posts located at the center of the panel. Use no less than three staples for a wooden post and three pieces of fencing wire for a steel post.
